The village of Mogochino in the Tomsk region stands on the right bank of the Ob river. It would seem, an unremarkable settlement in the outback, if not for the famous nunnery in Russia. To get here, you must first reach the village of Narga (221 km from Tomsk), then take the ferry and cross the other bank of the Ob River. In winter, there is a bus on the ice from Nargi.

A couple of words from the story
The village of Mogochino was founded in 1726. In those days it bore the name "Mogochin yurts" and was a Selkup village. The settlement grew slowly, by the end of the 19th century there were 28 households on its territory. The period of active development of the village came in the 1920s. It was then that a large woodworking enterprise was built on the territory of Mogochino.
During Soviet times, many exiled settlers, deported Germans, as well as former well-to-do peasants who fled trying to escape from forced dekulakization lived on the territory of the village. In the 1990s, the woodworking plant was closed, most of the young people left the area, which quickly became unpromising.
Mogochino today
To date, the population with difficulty reaches up to 3000 people, most of the local residents are pensioners. Many families left their rural homes in the 90's after the closure of the plant.
To date, Mogocchino can not be formally called a village, a village, or even a workers' village, since there is not a single industrial or agricultural enterprise on its territory. After the construction of the St. Nicholas convent in the village, the "churchmen" came to replace the families who left their homes.

St. Nicholas Convent
The monastery was founded on October 1, 1989. Its construction took place solely at the expense of donations of benefactors, centralized financing was not attracted. The construction of such a fascinating large-scale monastery in the outback is largely associated with the feat of innocently exiled people to the village during the repressions.
Another purpose of its erection was the purification of ancient pagan places that did not meet with church grace. Around the monastery since its inception, there is something reminiscent of the Orthodox community in which the volunteer churchmen live. People from all over the country come to Mogochino, the monastery annually collects hundreds of pilgrims.
