Entertainment, excursions and attractions of Hanover
It is worth seeing the Gothic church of Saints Georg and Jakob, Lauenrode Castle, the ruins of the church of Egydenkirche and the New Town Hall. Sprengel Museum is famous for the collection of works of 1900-1930's, Kestnermuseum - collection of ancient art and handicraft products, and the Museum of Lower Saxony - a very rich collection of historical rarities.
The Marktkirche St Georgii et Jacobi market church, built in the 14th century, together with the Old Town Hall, located nearby, is a sample of the North German brick Gothic. The church was partially destroyed during air raids in 1943 and was completely restored only in 1952.
In the building of the New Town Hall, erected in 1901-1913, there are 4 models of Hanover showing the city from different historical epochs: Hanover in 1689, 1939, 1945 and 2000, and to see modern Hanover, it is necessary only to climb the tower of the Town Hall with the height of 98 meters, which includes a 5-seater lift, and enjoy stunning views from a bird's eye view!
The Royal Gardens of Herrenhausen
The royal gardens of Herrenhauser Garten include the Groser Garten, the botanical gardens of Berggarten, Georgengarten and Welfengarten.
The large garden, one of the most outstanding baroque gardens in Europe, owes its aesthetics largely to the Duchess of Sofia Hanover, who commissioned his design to the French gardener Martin Sharbonier .The garden includes 50 hectares of lawns, hedges, sidewalks and statues located in a strict geometric pattern .The central place in the garden was once occupied by the castle of Herenhausen, which was badly damaged during the Second World War, although the ruins of the castle were almost completely destroyed after the war .Now the reconstruction of the castle is in full swing, which is planned to be completed by 2012 .
