Elected princes had no right to leave the palace during the month that they held their office. Today, the Museum of Urban History is opened in the palace.
Stradun Street is the most important in the Old Town .It is distinguished both by a rich history and interesting architecture .Typical baroque houses in Stradun built after the earthquake according to the general plan, because of what today the street looks very harmonious, and to walk along it in the evening with ice cream in hand, looking around the numerous shops on the ground floor - pure pleasure .Stradun ends with the second famous gate - Pile .Behind them begins the ancient fort Lovrienac, from where the Old City opens good views .Also worth attention are the fountains of Onofrio from both ends of Stradun .These are rather monumental structures, which crowned an ambitious project for the creation in the city, where there always was not enough fresh water, a water pipe .The most famous is the Onofrio Great Fountain with its mascaron faces and 16 facets of the construction .
The city walls and fortifications of Dubrovnik is a separate story .Walking on them is absolutely imperative, although it is better to choose before that time from early morning until the day begins, for then it will be too hot for you .The total length of the city walls is about 2 km, and these walls are famous all over the world .They have three entrances: at the gates of Pile, at Fort Sv .John and the customs building .Inside the city walls you will see on the southeast side Fort Minchet and fort Sv .John .Also in their line are Fort Lawrence near Pile and Fort Revelin at Ploče .Minchet is the most beautiful and in general it is one of the most attractive sights of Dubrovnik .Tower of St. .Luke can be seen by circling the city walls from the inside: it guarded the entrance to the harbor throughout the history of the city .
