Clermont-Ferrand (Clermont-Ferrand) is located in the south of the central part of France. This capital of the Auvergne region and the Puy-de-Dôme department grew on the slope of an extinct volcano, on the so-called Central Massif, a mountain ridge, at an altitude of more than 400 meters above sea level. Here everything is unusual: starting from the surrounding landscape and ending with the double name of the city, symbolizing the end of the struggle in the centuries between the Earls of Auvergne and the Bishops of Clermont.
Clermont-Ferrand residents have something to be proud of. The famous Michelin tires and the company's no less famous Red Guide - one of the most respected restaurant ratings around the world - comes from the city of extinct volcanoes.

History and culture
Up until the 17th century, Clermont-Ferrand was nothing but two different cities. The ancient Clermont, with its halo-Roman roots going back centuries, served as the capital of the bishops. Medieval Montferran feuded with the governors of God on earth and belonged to the counts of Auvergne. In 1630, the edict of King Louis XIII united them and created a rather fragile tandem, the viability of which had to be supported by other edicts. The center of the new city was Clermont, and the opposition Montferrand actually turned into a "suburb."
