Entertainment, excursions and attractions of Zaporozhye
The main attraction of Zaporizhzhia is the largest island of Khortytsia on the Dnieper, which, of course, is famous not for its size, but for its history. It was here in the 16th century that one of the Zaporozhye Sich was located. However, today the ruins of the Sich itself are not found, but on the nearby island of Malaya Khortitsa there was a tree-earth town of Dmitry "Baidy" of Vishnevetsky, which is considered to be the prototype of Sichy.
In the north of Khortytsya there is a picturesque panorama of the Dnieper Hydropower Station dam and several rocks, one of which has round grooves in which, according to legend, the Cossacks prepared dumplings. Now there are nine inhabited settlements on the island, in which about two thousand people live. But the island itself, and the surrounding rocks and islets are considered a National Reserve.
Zaporozhye oak
The famous Zaporozhye oak-giant is located in the village of Upper Khortytsya, the diameter of its crown was once 63 meters, and the circumference of the trunk is 6 meters 32 centimeters. Today, the tree is almost withered: already in the 1990s, it had few living shoots, today there is one living branch altogether. The remaining dry branches of the oak are supported by metal masts. Tradition says that it was under this oak that the Cossacks wrote their famous letter to the Turkish sultan.
Museums
The National Reserve "Khortytsya" sheltered, perhaps, the most interesting museum in the city - the Museum of History of Zaporozhye Cossacks. It is also worth a visit in the Regional Museum of Local History and Art, the private museum of the history of weapons, the Museum of Old Automotive and Military Equipment. Photo of Zaporozhye (16)
