The Cevahir shopping complex in Istanbul is considered one of the largest shopping centers in the world and certainly the largest in Europe. It is located in the European part of the city, in one of its central and fashionable areas called Shishli. In addition to shops and boutiques, there is also a wealth of entertainment for every taste and purse, and therefore locals often refer to the "Jevahir" as the trade and cultural center of Shishli.
Not surprisingly, "Jevahir" has become a favorite vacation spot for the Turks themselves, and also a destination for many tourists who want to buy at a bargain price. In total there are about 300 shops located on six floors in the shopping center. The biggest discounts here are offered at the end of summer and right after the coming of the new year - it's a hot time for "Jevahir", when up to 200 thousand people pass through its shopping areas a day.
Initially, the project of the shopping complex was developed back in 1987. Its author was an American architect of Japanese origin Minoru Yamakashi. The project was truly grandiose - a huge number of retail space, three skyscrapers, entertainment complexes and much, much more. Ten years after the development of the project, in 1997, construction was started. However, the funds invested in the project initially (and this is more than 250 million USD) began to dry up already by 2005, when only six floors were built.
At this the investors decided to stop and did not lose. These six floors have become more than enough to win the title of the largest shopping center in Europe, and this is not surprising, because the total area of the complex is 620 thousand square meters. m. "Jevahir" is also one of the largest shopping centers in the world, and on the glass roof of the complex (whose area, by the way, is more than 2,500 square meters), the world's largest clocks are installed. Just think - the height of one digit on their dial is 3 meters!
About 350 shops and boutiques are located on six floors of the trade building, both elite and more democratic brands are known here, known all over the world . Among the goods - home appliances and electronics on the ground floor, clothes, cosmetics and perfumery at second, Turkish brands (in addition to the famous Zara, Guess, Polo and Adidas) - on the third and fourth floors, and the last floors accommodate entertainment venues, cafes and restaurants . Simpler pizzerias and eateries are on the fifth floor, the condition of booking tables Aran - sixth . What else? 11 cinemas, bowling, attractions and parking for 2, 5 thousand . cars, in short, everything for visitors .
