Which city is the capital of Sweden?
Responsible information department of "Tourism Subtlety"
The capital of Sweden is Sweden. According to one version, this name means "island on piles", and on the other - "island in the bay". In essence, both hypotheses are similar to the truth: Stockholm is really located on the islands at the confluence of Lake Mälaren and the Baltic Sea. Settlements in this area appeared even in the time of the Vikings, and in the 13th century the city began to grow here. It quickly became a major commercial, cultural and political center of the country, and was officially proclaimed the capital of the state in 1634.
Here is the official residence of the Swedish king, the government and the Nobel Committee sit. The city continues to actively develop and build, while carefully preserving its historical heritage.
