Adam's peak
At the 34th session of the World Organization UNESCO, which was held on July 30, 2010 in Brazil, in Sri Lanka was added to 2 UNESCO sites. This is Sri Pada or better known as the Peak of Adam and the highlands of Sri Lanka, including Horton Plains and the Knakles Protected Forest

This mountain forest and the Horton Plains are located at an altitude of about 2500 meters above sea level and is the habitat and the growth of extraordinary animals and plants. Here there are forests, smoky meadows, ice streams and calm mountains, and the plains are a great place for long walks on foot.

In the place Hatton, which is 108 kilometers from Nuwara Eliya, there is a cone-shaped mountain 2224 meters high . This is the fifth the height of the mountain of Sri Lanka . Buddhists call it Sri Pada ("sacred trail"), considering that Gautam Buddha himself visited this place according to the records of the Sri Lankan epic and left there an imprint of his foot . Muslims believe that the trace on top left Adam, the first time having set foot on the ground, expelled from the paradise "E deme ยป. Hinduists believe that on the top of the mountain the trail is left by their supreme god Shiva and called the mountain Shrivan Adipatam (" cosmic dance of Shiva ") . Christians believe that St. Thomas, the Christian apostle who preached in the southern India . The Portuguese say that it was St. Thomas who brought Christianity to India . Every year from December to May, pilgrims of all religious faiths climb this mountain in order to receive a blessing, to be cleansed of sins and to touch their lips to sacred print from at the top of the mountain, which can be seen in the deepening .

Sri Lanka and previously considered the site with the highest density of UNESCO sites, now only strengthened its position.

At present, on a small island of 65, 6 thousand square meters. km. there are 9 UNESCO sites:

- holy city of Anuradhapura,

- ancient city of Polonnaruwa,

- fortress of Sigiriya,

- cave temple of Dambulla,

- last royal capital of Kandy,

- Dutch Fort Halle,

- the wet forest of Sinharaja,

- to which

have now been added - the sacred mountain Peak of Adam (Sri Pada),

- highlands of Sri Lanka (Horton plateau and Knakles mountain forest).
