An interesting fact is that the historical center of the city has been remarkably well preserved to this day, although there are very ancient buildings, for example, examples of wooden architecture - like a fire tower made of wood with a stone foundation.

But not only the architecture of the city attracts attention. A lot of places in Yelabuga are directly connected with the outstanding Russian cultural and scientific figures: Ivan Shishkin, Vladimir Bekhterev, Marina Tsvetaeva, Nadezhda Durova and many others.

The most famous monument of the city is the Elabuga fortified settlement, which is also called Chertov. This is a kind of visiting card of the city, and in its essence - a medieval settlement of local residents. It is from this place that the beginning of the history of Elabuga as a city begins, here the first Orthodox monastery was founded - Troitsky. Later it was transferred from the top of the mountain to the valley, overgrown with settlements in 90 years and was surrounded with an earthen embankment.

Yelabuga received the status of the city in 1780 by decree of Catherine II.

Even more ancient attraction, archaeological excavations, is Ananyinsky burial ground in the vicinity of Yelabuga. Its appearance dates back to the time between the 8th and 3rd centuries BC. e., and the burial ground was opened in 1855. Objects of art and cult things from here came not only to Elabuga museums, but also to museums throughout Russia and even abroad.

The religious buildings of Yelabuga are especially noteworthy.
