Located along the Tuskar River, Kursk is a "working" city with a thousand-year history. Most of it was restored after the Great Patriotic War, and it is an unattractive monument to urban architecture of Soviet times. The significance of the Kursk in the Second World War is well and vividly represented in museums, and the inhabitants are still proud of their hero city.

History of Kursk
The Kursk, founded in the 9th century, would have been destroyed under the onslaught of the Tatars in 1240 .For several centuries the city was under the rule of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania before it was annexed by Moscow, and at the end of the 16th century it was the southern foremost fortress of the principality .In the 18-19th centuries Kursk became the center of trade in grain and industry, as well as an important railway junction .But the real glory was brought by the Battle of the Kursk Bulge on July 5 - August 5, 1943, which was one of the most important victories of the Red Army during the Great Patriotic War .In memory of this great event in 115 km from Kursk, near the Kursk-Belgorod highway, a monument was erected .And the city itself was given the honorary status "City of Military Glory" .

Origin of name
The name of the city comes from the Curr stream, which flows into the Tuskar river. According to legend, the creek of Cours in the olden days was a deep-water and navigable river, which later became shallow. In the place where Kur is currently flowing, on both sides of the hill, where Pushkarnaya, Officerskaya and Kazatskaya streets are currently located. Perhaps this is the place where the Cours once flowed. The same relief is visible along the entire length of the river.
By the way, the word "chickens" in translation from the Old Norse language means "settlement". Considering that Kursk appeared on the way from the "Varangians to the Greeks", it can be said that the Vikings or Vikings founded the settlement or gave it a name.
