The most ancient monument of architecture of Old Russa is the Spassky Cathedral of the Transfiguration Monastery. The monastery itself was founded in 1192 near the right bank of the Polisti River. The complex of monastic buildings was formed by the 17th century. Currently, all the buildings of the monastery are restored, in the cathedral you can see fragments of frescoes from the 15th and 17th centuries, and the exposition of the Old Russian Museum of Local History is located in the premises of the monastery.
In 1371, the inhabitants of Russa put a stone church "the patron of trade" to Nikolai Mirlikiy near the trading area. One can not fail to mention another attraction of the city - not so ancient, but magnificently placed at the confluence of the Polisti and Porcia Resurrection Cathedral (1692-1696). Here is the icon of the Intercession of the Virgin - patroness of the city.

St. George's Church is a real decoration for the street of the same name. It houses the main shrine of the city - the icon of the Mother of God "Starorusskaya", donated by the monks of the Greek city of Oliviopol. At the end of St. George Street there is a small but very remarkable four-pillared cubic building - the church of the Great Martyr Mina (14th c). Because of the absence of the dome, it is difficult to know the temple. Almost the entire height of the walls preserved an ancient masonry made of red shell rock and white limestone.
The current Trinity Church on T. Frunze Street - differs strongly pronounced symmetry, rigor and harmony of the tiered composition.
In the city there is the house-museum of FM Dostoevsky (address: 42/2 Dostoevsky embankment, tel .: (81652) 2-1477). The great Russian writer came to Staraya Russa in 1872 and for eight years this city was a permanent resting place for him and his family. In the museum are the original things, documents and books that belonged to the writer. In this house were written novels "Brothers Karamazov", "Demons" and other works.
In memory of Dostoevsky, Grushenka's House is also here - an architectural monument of the 19th century, located at Glebov Street (formerly the embankment of Pereretitsa). The name was given by Agrippina Menshova, who lived in it, which became the prototype of "Grushenka Svetlova" in Dostoyevsky's novel The Brothers Karamazov.
