The town of Plyos is located on the right bank of the Volga, where the river cuts the Rostov-Pleskaya moraine ridge, forming the so-called "Pleskie gates", 38 km from the Furmanov railway station, 71 km northeast of Ivanovo. Cathedral Mountain - the oldest part of the city, its height is 70 meters, it was here that Basil the Dark and founded the city in 1410, having built a wooden fortress that has not survived to this day. One of the most famous inhabitants of Plyos is the artist Isaak Levitan, he was not a native of the city, however, having visited Plyos at the age of 27, he was so fascinated that he lived here for several years, constantly painting local landscapes.
