Fontanka - a river in St. Petersburg, but so is called in the people and its embankment. Now the Fontanka flows through the center of the city, but it remains the border of the ceremonial building of St. Petersburg. Through the river 15 bridges are transferred, seven of them are of the same type - lifting bridges. Walking along the banks of the Fontanka River, you can see many wonderful historical places and sights of St. Petersburg.
Such an interesting name appeared at the river in 1737. Until 1712-1714 it was called Yerik or Nameless Yerik and was more like a swamp. Then, after the devices of the Summer Garden fountains, pipes from the Ligovsky channel basin were transferred through it, hence the name Fountain River. Which immediately shortened to Zaphnibratskiy "Fontanka."
