History

The history of the theater began even in 1776. The first three buildings died in the fire. In 1856, the new theater building, which has survived to our days, was opened by the architect Albert Kavos. At the same time, a bronze quadriga of the work of Peter Klodt was installed above the entrance portico. In October 1941, a bomb hit the theater. In the years of Soviet power, All-Russian congresses of Soviets, meetings of the Central Executive Committee, congresses of the Comintern and other party events were held here. Reconstruction

The last building was closed for reconstruction in 2005. In November 2011, the opera premiere of the opera Ruslan and Lyudmila resumed on the historical stage. The columns of the Main facade, created by Osip Bove, were returned to their original ivory color. The facade of the building was decorated with sculptures of muses, repeating those that were in niches before 1941. The main curtain was re-created instead of the worn-out famous "golden" curtain made in 1955.

New chairs for the auditorium repeat the external the appearance of the pre-Soviet era, returned to the previous number and the number of seats. The chairs and armchairs became more comfortable, the width of the aisles increased. The decor of the auditorium was restored in the form in which it originally conceived Kavos. The gilding of stucco elements made of papier-mache took 4. 5 kg of gold. A special order for the Bolshoi Theater was produced and delivered from Belgium by the organ.

In the renovated theater complex there was a new room - an underground concert hall near the Theater Square, designed for 330 spectators. In the afternoon it will be used as a rehearsal room, and in the evenings chamber concerts will be held here. In total, with the New Stage, which was opened in 2002 and hosted performances during the closure of the main building, the Bolshoi Theater thus has at its disposal three venues for performances.
