In every city with a long history there is such a street as a magnet attracting tourists - impregnated with a special spirit, with houses and lanes, each of which can tell its own an entertaining story. In Moscow, this is the well-known Arbat - one of the oldest streets in Moscow. Today, the Arbat is just as important a Moscow landmark as the Red Square, the Bolshoi Theater or St. Basil's Cathedral.

Arbat is interesting, perhaps because it is not a frozen historical monument, but a living, ever-changing space. Since 1986 the street is completely pedestrian. Traditionally it is performed by street artists, cartoonists draw cartoons, pictures for sale and "Russian" souvenirs are in abundance.

In the 18th century. The most famous noble family - Tolstoy, Sheremetev, Golitsyn, Kropotkin, settled on the Arbat. By the end of the XIX century, the aristocrats were replaced by intellectuals, on the street there were shops, hotels, restaurants. In 1908, an electric tram was launched along the Arbat Street, in 1909 a "Khudozhestvenny" cinema appeared on the Arbat Square, and in 1921 a theater was opened in the building of the ancient Arbat Mansion. Vakhtangov. At different times there lived Marina Tsvetaeva, Andrei Bely, Mikhail Derzhavin, Sergei Aksakov, Konstantin Balmont.

Bulat Okudzhava. Ah, Arbat, my Arbat

Walking along the Arbat will require thoughtfulness, attentiveness, only the interested spectator will open the multifaceted Arbat, and the rest, most likely, will not be considered for the motley signs of new-fashioned cafes . But there are many remarkable things on Arbat , with a story! Here is the restaurant "Prague" in which Leo Tolstoy arranged public readings of the "Resurrection", but at the house with lion masks on the facade (Arbat, 11) the upper two floors differ from the lower ones - they were obviously completed later; in one of the alleys there is a "haunted house", and in another - a house where he spent his childhood Bulat Okudzhava .

Arbat is interesting, perhaps because it is not a frozen historical monument, but a living, constantly changing space.

By the way, on the Arbat is a monument to Bulat Okudzhava, these are signs of modernity, like Hard Rock Cafe, the sculpture "Pushkin and Natalie", in memory of the fact that the newly married couple lived in the opposite house for several months, and Wall Tsoi - quotes from the songs of the "Kino" group and the confessions of love to the musician wall of the house No. 3 7, overlooking Krivoarbatsky Lane. In a word, the old Arbat can be explored endlessly, noticing new details, learning more and more from your own history.

One of the most interesting, incendiary and otvyaznyh places in the center of Moscow is Hard Rock Cafe, which is located in the historical house of XIX century on Old Arbat.
Here you can come not just to have a snack or drink good whiskey, but maybe a strong coffee or dance with cheerful waiters during the party
Here is the real museum , dedicated to rock at all times: all possible attributes of well-known bands and performers, guitars, clothes of rock legends, autographs.

Arbat - favorite tourist place September 02, 2013

To visit Moscow and not visit the famous Arbat is a huge omission. I still remember my feeling of walking around this place. It's like feeling that there are only some creative individuals who are ready to open themselves to the world. Even in winter there are a lot of artists who put their paintings on display and sale, many musicians, sellers of antiques, etc. There are a lot of cafes and cozy restaurants on the arbat, like "Chocolate Girl", but the average check in them goes out by about 700-1000 rubles ...
