The Old Vladimir Museum

Vladimir, ul. Kozlov Val

Sights of Vladimir The museum "Old Vladimir" located next to the famous Vladimir Golden Gate is a unique phenomenon. And it's not even in its exhibits, among which, by the way, there are rarities and raisings, but that this is the first museum in Russia opened in the water tower.

In addition to the many museums and cathedrals, which we have in detail told us in the main article on Vladimir (that is, here), in this city there are a lot of other interesting sights.

For example, on the main thoroughfare of the city, Moskovskaya street, there are the Golden Gate, which became one of the symbols of the city. In total, there were five such gates in Vladimir, but only these ones survived to this day. They were used for defense, and specifically these also served as a passage to the richest part of the city. There were quite a few similar structures in Russia, so now the Golden Gate is considered a unique monument of Russian fortification

Bolshaya Moskovskaya Street is also home to the Herzen University, in which Venedikt Erofeev, the famous author of the poem "Moscow-Petushki", studied at the time. Here is the house of the vice-governor of Dunant, built in 1816, the building of the noble assembly of the late 18th century and the living rooms.

At the Cathedral Square, the building of the places of interest and the monument erected in honor of the 850th anniversary of Vladimir are interesting. And in the historic center of the city, on Gagarin Street, there is the Puppet Theater, the building of which used to be a place for public gatherings and rallies, and later became a library and a soldier's reading room.

On the Noble Street attracts attention the regional theater of the Drama named after Lunacharsky, built in 1848. Not far from the puppet theater there is a planetarium located in the building of the St. Nicholas Kremlin. Here you can see the only diorama in the country, depicting the take-off of the ship Energia-Buran. In addition, the planetarium has rather rare exhibits - a large globe of the moon, mock-ups of the first artificial earth satellites and the Foucault pendulum.

And on Bolshaya Nizhegorodskaya there is Vladimirsky Tsentral, a prison built by the decree of Catherine II and received a certain popularity among tourists after the appearance of the same name the songs of Michael Krug. It contained the American spy Powers, the revolutionary Frunze, the film actress Zoya Fedorova and many famous state exiles. In 1996, the prison was turned into a museum and opened its doors to visitors.
