How to get there

Get from Vladimir mozhn on the bus: routes 18, 103, 126, 152. They pass through the center and stop at Cathedral Square about once every half hour.

From the station you will first have to take the trolleybus № 12 to the chemical plant (VHZ, fifth stop), then transfer to the bus.

By car, you can get to Bogolyubov from Moscow by the M7 motorway, bypassing Vladimir, and following the directions for Nizhny Novgorod-Bogolyubovo.

By train, you can reach Bogolyubov by electric trains that follow from Vladimir to Vyaznikov and Kovrov, Bogolyubovo will be the 4th stop.

Holy Bogolyubskii convent

Holy Bogolyubskii convent (before the revolution - the male) is located on the former site of the palace Bogolyubsky. Most of the buildings of the monastery - the fence with towers, the gate Church of the Assumption, the cells, the bell tower and the Cathedral of the Nativity of the Virgin - belong to the 18-19 centuries. However, the monastery includes two unique monuments of the 12th century - fragments of the former white-stone palace. The staircase tower with a carving (under the bell tower) and the gallery adjoining it have reached the present day

The remains of the prince's castle are a unique monument of civil architecture of the 12th century. Tourists can climb a spiral staircase decorated with paintings. Picturesque paintings tell of the conspiracy and murder of Prince Bogolyubsky. It was on this staircase that the mortally wounded prince descended, trying to hide from the conspirators. From the stair tower there was once a transition to the Cathedral of the Dates. Stunning temple, painted with frescoes and lined with copper tiles, existed until 1722, when the then rector ordered the windows to be enlarged for high illumination. From this reconstruction the temple collapsed.

On the ancient foundation a baroque church was built, which still exists. There is an exposition in the church that tells about the history of Bogolyubov, its architectural monuments and archeological excavations

Church of the Intercession on the Nerl

Church of the Intercession on the Nerl (1165) - one of the most beautiful in Russia. It is located on a hill near the confluence of the Nerl in the Klyazma, in the midst of the meadow, a mile and a half from the monastery. You can only reach on foot.
