In Murmansk there is no historical center, but city life is concentrated around the area of ​​Five Uglov, representing a harmonious ensemble of buildings of the second half of the 20th century.

Murmansk is famous for a large number of monuments: the victims of the intervention of 1918, the hero of the USSR A. Bredov, the lost ships of the Northern convoys, the first Russian icebreaker Ermak, Cyril and Methodius, the memorials of the Green Cape (the hillock bordering the central part of the city from the north and far into Kolsky bay). In the southern part of the city, as well as on the hillside, one of the few temples of Murmansk is located - the Cathedral, consisting of the St. Nicholas Cathedral and the Trifon Pechenga Church.

Since 1934 in March, in the midst of the polar winter, in the Valley of Comfort there is a holiday of the North (Polar Olympiad). The program includes all the main types of winter sports and local competitions: reindeer sleigh rides, "Buranas", skiing with a reindeer, "walrus" swimmings.

In the New Year holidays on the Square of Five Corners the Snow and Ice Sculpture Festival is held.

Murmansk Regional Museum of Local History was founded in 1926. After the reconstruction, it became one of the most modern and well-equipped museums in Russia, but its exposition is rather poor.
