At present, the capital of Romania is Bucuresti (Bucureşti). The first documentary references to this city are dated 1459 and are associated with the name of the prototype of the legendary Count Dracula - Prince Vlad Tepes. It is believed that from the fortress built on this land by his order, Bucharest also began.

By the time (XV-XV century) on the territory of modern Romania, the principalities of Moldavia with the capital in Suceava, and Wallachia with the capital in Targovishte were formed. In 1698 the capital of Wallachia moved to Bucharest. But all the Danube princedoms, including the Transylvanian formed in the 16th century, with the capital in Alba-Julia, were under the rule of the Ottoman Empire. Their situation changed in the 19th century, thanks to the national liberation movement.

As a result of the principality united, Bucharest became their main city, and on January 24, 1862. proclaimed the capital of the Romanian state.
