Add review of Murano

The outskirts of Venice are no less interesting than the city center. However, the Murano region, which produces the world famous Murano glass, sometimes called the Venetian glass, enjoys special popularity among tourists.

In just two EUR, you can get to the glass blower's workshop and look at the amazing process of making glassware. "To blow into a tube", of course, will not be allowed, because it is for the amateurs a burnt danger, but even from the simple contemplation of the action impressions are unforgettable!

Murano glassmakers for a long time guarded the secrets of their skills. The glass-blower who left the island was considered a traitor and could be killed on the orders of the "Council of Ten". Murano was able to do things that no one in Europe could do - first of all mirrors and glasses. In the Renaissance, when it became fashionable to be closer to nature, aristocrats built themselves dachas on Murano, and here, as in somewhere in Malakhovka, the summer intellectual life blossomed with talks about philosophy, art and astrology.

The area is still an autonomous mini-city: there are churches, palaces and all necessary services, but tourists are more attracted by the Museum of Glass and souvenir shops, where you can buy "the same, the present." However, to count on the cheapness of the "same" is not worth it - perhaps in souvenir shops in other areas of the city you will find similar products at a much lower price.
