If you are on vacation in Venice and realized that the abundance of new knowledge requires an urgent reset - you can spend a day in one of the outlying areas - for example, Burano. In the area of a minimum of attractions (the Museum of lace and the church of San Martino with a sloping 52-meter bell tower, but all - without a "stamp" must see).
The island of Burano - the most decorative of the Venetian possessions, its houses, painted in different bright colors, look like toy. Even in winter, the views here are very joyful, and special charm to the local urban landscapes is given by hung clothes to hang: it is everywhere.
It is believed that such bright colors of the walls were needed to ensure that sailors returning after sailing found their way home more easily. There is also a more ridiculous and incredible version, which reports that the seamen painted foreheads in the colors of their homes. And when the sailor got drunk to the point of unconsciousness, it was easier to deliver it to the destination.
But there is a third version: most likely, the houses were painted so brightly to highlight their city. Until 1923, Burano, combined with other territories, was considered a separate municipal formation, where each family was assigned its own color, so this varicoloured color became the main business card of Burano. Now this is done, of course, primarily to attract tourists.
How to get here
To the island of Burano, a vaporetto (water taxi) is sent twice a hour from a stop at the lighthouse of Murano (Faro Murano).
