The Pantheon is an ancient pagan temple, later consecrated as the Christian Church of St. Mary and the Martyrs, dedicated at once to all Roman deities. This architectural object of the pre-Christian era has survived to this day and amazes not only archaeologists, but also ordinary tourists with its greatness.
The inscription on the facade "M. Agrippa L. F. Cos. Tertium Fecit "reads:" Mark Agrippa, the son of Lucius, three times consul, did. "
Architecture
Take, for example, the layout. In the Pantheon there are no windows. At all. There is only one hole at the very top of the dome 9 meters in diameter. And it's not that the ancient Romans were too lazy to punch windows in thick walls. Just one hole meant the unity of all the deities. They say that during a snowfall, when snowflakes fall into the "oculus" (as they call it), they form fabulous twists. However, it's better to see it with your own eyes.
On the perimeter of the temple in the niches were statues of deities, which for a year alternately fell light from the hole in the dome. But these sculptures, alas, were not preserved (after all, the structure is more than 2000 years old), and their place is now occupied by sculptures and paintings of the 18th century.
How to get
The Pantheon is located in Piazza della Rotonda, while it is possible to visit the temple for free, it is open to all comers from 8.30 to 19.30 on weekdays and from 9.00 to 18.00 on Sunday. The nearest metro station is Barberini.
Today, if desired, you can even pass a wedding ceremony in the Pantheon. Romantic views of the grave of Raphael and the tombstones of the first Italian kings are attached.

The Pantheon is an ancient structure, impressive, first of all, its greatness. Outside, the "antiquity" of this historical object is seen much brighter than inside. When you go inside, you are amazed how much everything is preserved in its bright and spectacular expressiveness. During our visit there was a bright sunny day and this contributed to the fact that we could see an amazing stream of light that falls from the hole in the dome to the floor. We had the opportunity not to hurry and just sit inside, ... Read the whole review

Half a year ago I went with my husband and 4-year-old son to Rome. I liked architecture very much, it fascinates me, even a small son was delighted. Of course, I visited the Pantheon ... it was winter ... the snowflakes penetrated through the holes in the roof, it's very beautiful! We will definitely go again!
Also visited the Colosseum in the evening, he is especially handsome and astonishing. Sorry, I can not post photos :(
ADVICE TO ALL GO TO THIS GREAT CITY !!!

Acquaintance with Rome began with a sightseeing tour around the city. Our group from the Colosseum walked to the Pantheon, about which I did not even hear anything at the time!
The square in front of the Pantheon is very beautiful and lively. Here the fountain is always full of tourists who admire the columns of the "temple of all gods." There are many shops and restaurants along the edges of the square. I advise you to visit the gelatoria to the left of the fountain (if you stand facing the Pantheon), where for 5 euros you can taste the delicious huge horn stuffed with balls ... To be in Italy and not to visit Rome is disrespect to this country. Rome probably is the city in which the largest number of attractions are collected. One of the most famous architectural and spiritual treasures of Rome is the Pantheon. It is next to the Trevi Fountain and it's very easy to get to it. Around it are built residential buildings, many cafes, restaurants and shops. They sell a lot of souvenirs. In summer it is very hot here, so it's easy to get dressed and take more water.
On the building itself ... Read full review

Certainly, being in Rome, it is necessary to devote time and attention to such a monument of architecture as the Pantheon. The building of the Pantheon fascinates, there is undoubtedly something mystical about it. Many believe that the Pantheon is a symbol of the whole of Rome, not the Colosseum.
The Pantheon is open daily and now acts as a Christian church. Go into it is to see an amazing dome from the inside, and also visit the tomb of Raphael. Although many other celebrities in Italy are also resting here.
This is very rarely said ... Read full review

Temple of all the gods. Pantheon. This is one of the most important places in Rome. Of course, when you visit the Italian capital, you need to visit it. Let there be no exquisite beauty and bright colors in the Pantheon. This is a monument of another level. It feels the power and former greatness of the Roman Empire. There is always crowded. And in the temple itself, and near it a crowd of tourists at any time of the year. In addition to architectural features it is interesting to visit here to look at the last refuge of the great Raphael. His modest tomb is located ... Read the whole review

Walking in the center of Rome, it is impossible to pass the Pantheon, it is located on a fairly large area and outwardly represents a huge majestic structure. However, near it there is also a very beautiful fountain in the square, which is a frame for another Egyptian stella, there are always a lot of tourists. Entrance to the Pantheon is free, there are wooden shops inside, so you can come here and with a view to relaxing after a walk around the city. In the Pantheon there are no windows except one large ... Read the whole review
