Venice Carnival
For two weeks before the Great Lent, Venice, already attracting romantics from around the world all year round, is filled with newcomers from fairy-tale worlds, bright masks, carnival costumes, music and laughter. The Venetian carnival is familiar to everyone, and more than half a million fans of the magical atmosphere of the medieval festival come to admire this miracle every year.
The carnival opens with the ancient holiday Festa delle Marie, dedicated to the liberation of Venetian girls from the clutches of pirates of Istria. Further on the St. Mark's Square you can see a grand carnival procession of people in amazing costumes and masks, each of which can be called a work of art. Balls-masquerades, theatrical performances, performances and fireworks are also permanent attributes of the holiday.
One of the most famous forums of world art is the Venice Biennale. This is an international art exhibition, which takes place every two years between the beginning of June and the end of November.
The Venice Film Festival is the oldest international event in the field of cinema, which takes place annually in August-September. The main prize of the festival is the "Golden Lion", which the jury awards to the participants. Within the framework of the festival the main competition is held, where the best film, director and actors are selected, the program "Horizons", within the framework of which the game and documentary films, short films competition and out-of-competition display are presented.
Vogalonga is the oldest and most important regatta in Venice. Traditionally, it is arranged for the Trinity (late May - early June), and the length of its route is about 30 km. The main goal of the race is to express your love for the city and protest against motor boats, the waves from which can cause irreparable harm to Venice. Any vessel can participate in the regatta, and the number of crew members is not limited to them.
