At first glance, Tarquinia resembles a miniature version of San Gimignano with its medieval towers, but still the main reason for visiting this city is the painted Etruscan tombs inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List and the best outside of Rome Etruscan museum. Tarquinia, located a little away from the Mediterranean coast, on the banks of the River Marta, is part of the Lazio region.

The Tourist Office of Tarquinia is located at Piazza Cavour, 1 and is open from 08:00 to 14:00 from Monday to Saturday.

Tarquinia is one of the most ancient Etruscan cities. According to ancient myths, Tarquinia was founded by Tark - the son or brother of Tirren.
