Expert Reviews of Jerusalem Hotels
Old Town
In the Old City, the prices for accommodation are quite democratic. Recreation here is also attractive with the atmosphere of the Middle Ages, orthodoxy and tranquility.
Zion Square, Jaffa Road and Ben-Yehuda Mall
Leaving the hotel here, you will immediately find yourself in the heart of the city's shopping district and restaurants. There are so many things that you will not have much time to lose and get lost where to go first.
King George Street and King David Street
Along the southern borders of King George Street you will find several hotels. A half-kilometer from Zion Square on King David Street also has a group of hotels. The distance from the hotel to the square is small, but with the scorching sun many will want to get there by bus or taxi.
Southern Jerusalem
To get from here to the city center, you need a taxi or a bus, but still it will be more interesting to walk half an hour on foot. There are several hotels and hospices here. And from the Hebron Road hotels you have a beautiful view of the Old City
West Jerusalem
West Jerusalem - a residential area where you can find hotels in a wide price range. So in the vicinity of Abu Tor and German Colony, which is a five minute drive from Zion Square, there are many beautiful cozy hotels. The neighborhood of the bus station in the area of Sderot Herzl is the main hotel accommodation in West Jerusalem. However, it is problematic to get there on foot to the main sights and places of walks. By bus to Zion Square, you will reach an average of 20 minutes, but there may be difficulties on the weekend with transportation.
East Jerusalem
The hotels in East Jerusalem are known for their hospitality. Here, as a rule, good value for money, and prices are relatively low. The only downside is that in the evening and at night here it is very quiet, in the district there are absolutely no entertainment facilities. Also there are very dilapidated hotels for low prices. Most hotels in East Jerusalem raise prices by 20-25% during the Christmas and Easter holidays
Mount of Olives
In the very east of Jerusalem is the Mount of Olives. It is located as if on the outskirts, so that you can get to it only by taxi. But the main advantage of this place is the incredible view of the city from a height.
Types of accommodation in Jerusalem
In Jerusalem, so-called family hotels are widely distributed. Like all other fashionable hotels, they are traditionally located in the city center. For example, Lev Yerushalayim, David Citadel Hotel and Inbal Hotel: they can choose rooms consisting of several rooms with kitchenettes and living rooms with a sofa bed or a place under a bunk bed (on request). There is an indoor swimming pool in the courtyard for holidaymakers, and a playground for children is located in the nearby Liberty Bell Park
If you need accommodation with small children, it is better to choose a Dan Hotel hotel network, where there is no additional fee for living up to two kids only extra breakfasts are allowed). Especially for kids there is a Ramat Rachel with a pool and a playground. The Mount Zion Hotel has many rooms for families, and from additional facilities there are two swimming pools: adults and children.
In addition, in Jerusalem, a great variety of all kinds of hotels, hostels, guest houses and guesthouses. At the same time, most of the "fours" and "fives" (which, in view of their category, are supposed to have an area of numbers not less than a certain minimum) are outside the Old City. The hotels located in its line usually do not have any stars: all kinds of B & B, guesthouses and apartments.
B & B in a private house is an interesting alternative to the hotel. The prices here are much lower, plus it is an opportunity to get to know the lifestyle of an ordinary Israeli family. Most often the owners of such hotels are the elderly, who always welcome guests. A room with a bathroom in such hotels costs about $ 50, a double room is $ 90. The price includes breakfast.
A small apartment for rent for two will cost somewhere around $ 120. Also in the city there are many options for the collection of beautiful houses with a garden.
Travelers who come to Jerusalem during group excursion tours are accommodated in the Christian, Jewish or Armenian quarters - they are considered to be the safest. However, individual travelers are less likely to stop in the Muslim quarter (near Damascus Gate and the intersection of El-Wad and Via Dolorosa), as the prices for accommodation there are lower.
Christian hospices or boarding houses are a good alternative to hotels for tourists with a limited budget. In Jerusalem, there are a lot of them, and guests of all faiths are happy to be there. Most guest houses have beautiful architecture, as they were built for pilgrims as far back as the 19th century.
