Temple of Athena Afayi
Following further in the same direction, we approach the towering temple of Athena Afayi (5th century BC .e .) .According to legend, the daughter of Zeus called Vritomartis fled Crete, not wanting to become the wife of Minos .But in the sea depths it falls into the network of a fisherman who falls in love with her without a memory .In an attempt to avoid this unwanted marriage, Vritomartis rushes to the island, whence in front of the sailor he evaporates in the air, due to which he receives the name Afay, from the Greek "afandos" - to disappear without a trace .The image of Afayi eventually merged with Athena, which explains the double name .The temple forms the famous triangle with the temple of Poseidon in Sounio and the Acropolis of Athens .The admission ticket costs € 4 (as of June 2011) .
Moni Island
