Lübeck is not just a city with a rich history, it is a port city on the Baltic Sea, not far from the confluence of the Trave River. Arisen in 1143 on the site of the Slavic settlement burnt to the ground, Lübeck is considered to be a city with a very advantageous geographical position: it is located at the intersection of important land and waterways, thanks to which the Middle Ages rapidly grew and developed, even fires that often happened in Lübeck in the 12th and 13th centuries.

Very near the church of St. Mary there is an amazing sight, past which no fan of German literature can pass indifferently: the house of Buddenbrok. In reality, it is the nest of the writers of Thomas and Henry Mann, for the readers it is the home of the Buddenbroke family, whose life of several generations was brilliantly depicted in his book The Family of Buddenbrok, Thomas Mann. This house houses the Mann family museum.
You can see the panorama of the old city from the observation platform Petrikirche. It makes an unforgettable impression: the old city is surrounded on all sides by water, and all its houses are built of baked bricks (this was done in order to minimize the damage from fires, which initially happened in the city a lot), which creates an amazingly holistic picture. The Old Town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is protected by this organization.
