Add a review about the Cathedral of St. Nicholas in Nice

The Magnificent Cathedral of St. Nicholas is the main attraction of the Orthodox Nice. Once on the square in front of the cathedral, it seems as if you are somewhere on the Volga banks - so the cathedral reminds classical Russian churches. Interiors are no less interesting: among the relics is the miraculous icon of Nicholas, who was under the deathbed of Cesarevich Nicholas, who died in 1865.

The first stone in the foundation of the cathedral was laid in 1903, and in 1912 the church received the first parishioners. For the construction was taken a sample of five-domed Russian churches. The outer lining, however, was made of local materials: pink granite and blue ceramic tiles. With a cathedral height of 50 meters and a capacity of more than 600 people, the temple is recognized as the largest Orthodox church in Western Europe.

Several historical shrines are remarkable inside the cathedral, the main one being the miraculous icon of St. Nicholas, self-renewed in 1935. Still here you can see icons presented to the temple of the royal family of the Romanovs, including Nicholas II

In the crypt of the cathedral there is the Museum of the Russian colony in Nice
