Each city has its own soul, its smell, its spirit .Huge mega-cities with rapid beating of traffic junctions-hearts, city-factories, busily puffing with cigar factory pipes, modern capitals with enchanting night lights and stylish flavors of expensive cars and women .And there are cities whose breath is the musky magic of antiquity, such a city is permeated with barely perceptible gold threads of creation, art, knowledge, is captured by the exciting radiance of perfection .Vienna is one of such magical places, walks along which - every time a revelation, acquaintance .And the Viennese streets sooner or later lead you to an unusual structure, looking at which you feel the irrepressible hand of a rebel and a philosopher .
Deservedly one of the most avant-garde buildings of Vienna is the House of the Artist Friedensreich Hundertwasser, whose design does not lend itself to any stylistic generalization. The Ecological House, as the author himself calls it, (address: Untere Weissgerberstrasse, 13, 1030 Wien) is a 15-minute walk from the Wien Mitte metro station in the 3rd Vienna district, the building at the corner of Leuven-gassé and Kegelgasse ( Kegelgasse 34-38 / Lowengasse 41-43), and immediately striking its unusual appearance.
The facade in the form of terraces, a myriad of windows of different shapes (the Hundertwasser has developed 13 types), uneven walls decorated with a chaotic mosaic pattern - the architect's fantasy was sold out in earnest.
Another feature is the so-called "trees - tenants": green tenants, which grow from the windows of some apartments.
The walls and niches of the house are decorated with unusual figures, statues, balls, stone lions and skittles.
The classic elements of Western European architecture are struck - columns .They are of different shapes and colors .By the way, the house is residential, apartments in it are provided to ordinary civil servants .Apparent disorder in proportions, copying the unevenness of the natural landscape, growing directly inside the building, trees express the desire of the creator of the House to bring the person closer to nature as much as possible .It is a manifesto about the possibility of a harmonious existence of man in natural natural conditions without suppression and violence .Part of the facade is decorated with ivy and wild grapes, the trees grow even on the roof, which makes the Hundertwasser House look like a colored fruit candy, stuck among the gray geometric boxes .
The extravagance of the architectural lines of the colorful castle, or rather, the lack of their straightforwardness, symmetry, makes this place unforgettable for tourists. By the way, they are not too lazy to flash the walls of the building even at night, causing some inconvenience to the residents of the unusual house. After completing the construction of this offspring in 1986, Hundertwasser embodied his "natural" philosophy in yet another similar building - the House of Arts (Kunsthauswin), located in the neighborhood.
The facade in the form of terraces, a myriad of windows of different shapes, uneven walls, decorated with chaotic mosaics - the architect's fantasy dispersed in earnest.
The exposition of works by the author and contemporary artists is open daily from 10.00 to 19.00. On the ground floor there is a restaurant and a museum shop. Before the trip to Vienna, I had some idea of what the Vienna Opera, St Stephen's Cathedral and Hofburg look like - majestic buildings in classical style. After we drove a couple of hours along the Vienna Ring, we were taken to some ordinary residential area near the Danube to see this Hundertwasser House. This architectural pattern is something quite unlike what we have been looking at before. A house with uneven walls painted with colorful paint ... Read full review
