Since its inception, Odessa has gained fame as a cultural center, its sources were formed by the most educated people of its time. Already at the beginning of the 19th century, the southern capital favorably differed from the surrounding cities: a city theater appeared, the Richelieu Lyceum, created by analogy with the famous Tsarskoye Selo, was the beginning of other cultural traditions ...

Here the bright and diverse theatrical life is boiling. In particular, in Odessa operates eight theaters, including one national, three academic, as well as the Philharmonic. In addition, guests of the city can always visit the state circus and many different exhibitions for every taste.

According to the memoirs of contemporaries, A.S. Pushkin went to the Opera every evening and even devoted the following lines to her: "Eugene Onegin":

"But the evening turns dark blue,
It's time for us at the Opera soon:
There's a delightful Rossini,
Europe's darling - Orpheus. "
