The streets of Kiev - to match the city with a long history. Some of them were mentioned in ancient chronicles and today are a living reminder of those ancient times. Kiev streets are diverse and in their own way amazing.

Kiev City Center

Streets of the center of Kiev - one of the oldest in the city. They witnessed the transformation of the Ukrainian capital, its development and improvement. These streets can be called the most romantic, endowed with a special charm that no other Kiev street has.

The most famous of the central - Khreshchatyk. This is one of the first streets of Kiev, there was a brisk trade, deals were made, famous people of the city were walking.

Khreshchatyk is a real open-air museum, one of the main sights of Kiev.

From Kreschatik in all directions, like the sun's rays , such streets as Trehsvyatitelskaya, Sofievskaya, Malaya Zhitomirskaya, Mikhailovskaya go away

No less popular with Kievites and guests of the capital is Andreevsky Descent. This is an ancient path that connects the central part of the Upper City with the commercial Podol. Previously, prominent scientists and cultural figures lived and worked here. And today Andreevsky Descent turned into a street-museum. On a descent Kievites often arrange holidays, festivals, exhibitions, costume performances. Here are the Mikhail Bulgakov Museum, the Kavaleridze Memorial House Museum

One of the unusual streets of Kiev is called the Kruglouniversitetskaya. It is remarkable in that it is made in the form of a semicircle, as was stated in the report of the Construction Committee - "two half-calipers". Here there are residential apartment houses built in the 19th century and nowadays become architectural monuments.

There is another street in the center of Kiev - Proreznaya. Here is a monument to Panikovsky - one of the favorites of the Ukrainian capital. The monument serves as a reminder of who Mikhail Samuelevich was before the revolution - the great blind. "I paid the policeman at the corner of Khreshchatyk and Proreznaya five rubles a month, and nobody touched me," Panikovsky described in his novel "The Golden Calf" in Ilf and Petrov's novel.

Proreznaya is a very beautiful street, drowning in greenery. It is nice to walk in the shade of trees. The streets of the central part of Kiev are very convenient for tourists, here you can freely navigate. In addition, almost all the streets of the center lead to Khreshchatyk.

Kiev Boulevards

In Kiev very convenient boulevards - they are quite extensive and combine transport and pedestrian areas. The first boulevards appeared in the capital of Ukraine in the 19th century. Then was laid Bibikovsky, later became a boulevard named after Shevchenko. In those years it was the longest street in Russia. The first mention of it dates back to 1838. That boulevard was the face of Kiev, its poplar alley stretched for as long as 4 kilometers. And today the green areas of the boulevard are its main decoration.

Shevchenko Boulevard is a lively transport highway. Here is a five-star hotel "Premier Palace", built first in the post-war city, the Shevchenko Park, the building of the Kiev National University. And on the opposite side of the complex of buildings of the clinical hospital, where he worked Nikolai Pirogov. To the Shevchenko boulevard there are such streets as Khreshchatyk, Krasnoarmeiskaya, Pushkinskaya, Shevchenkovsky Park, Vladimirskaya, Leontovicha

One of the most famous boulevards of Kiev is Lesi Ukrainki Boulevard. He began to build in the late 50-ies of the last century. It passes from the streets of Mechnikov and Hospital to the Boulevard of Friendship of Peoples. There are many administrative institutions and research institutes here, in one of the houses there is the biggest in the city specialized store "Gift House", and opposite Suvorov school there is a monument to Alexander Suvorov

Another well-known Kiev boulevard - Friendship of Peoples - is located from Dzerzhinsky square to Bridge of Paton, just near the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra.

The boulevard is located on an ancient site, which used to be called Zverinets. A stream ran to the lake Dushegubitsa along the tract. In general, there was a fun place.

In 1959, the Autostrada Street changed its name to the Friendship of the Peoples Boulevard. Thus, the inhabitants of the city perpetuated the assistance of the Soviet republics in the restoration of Kiev after the Great Patriotic War. There are many streets adjacent to the boulevard: Tovarnaya, Czech, Filatova, Staronavodnitskaya, Verkhniy Lane and others, as well as the Pechersky Bridge, which connects the boulevard and the streets of Kikvidze and Bastionnaya.

Andreevsky Descent in Kiev

Kiev's Descent of Kyiv

Kiev to present without descents. There are more than a dozen in the Ukrainian capital. The appearance of descents is caused by the relief of the earth: in Kiev - hilly terrain.

Descents appeared on the site of the hollows, on which river water flowed earlier. Some of them have the same outlines as several centuries ago. Even then, residents of the city used these routes to descend to the docks and ferries located on the Dnieper.

Borichev descent was mentioned in the "Lay of Igor's Host". It was here on the orders of Prince Vladimir dragged idol gods, and then thrown into the Dnieper in edification of the Gentiles.

Borichev starts from Borichev Street and leads to the River Station. Vladimirsky Descent goes from the European Square and ends at Borichev's descent. It is known for the fact that in the late 19th century the first electric tram line in Russia was laid. Today this descent requires major repairs, as it slowly "leaves" to the embankment.

Smorodinsky descent is referred to the ghost streets of Kiev. Some townspeople argue that this does not exist at all, but it all came out. In fact, this picturesque descent, which connects the streets of Nagornaya and Frunze, is in the channel of the Smorodinsky stream. In the 50 years of the last century it was almost forgotten, perhaps, therefore, in the city and there were legends about the ghost. But car owners know that the Smorodinsky Descent with its sharp turns is well suited for extreme driving.

Kyiv's roads

The roads of Kiev are a headache for both pedestrians and motorists. The city authorities recognize that local roads are in a deplorable state. This is especially evident in the spring when the snow comes down. Most budgetary funds are spent on patching holes, but there seems to be no major complex work to improve roads in Kiev.

At the moment the roads in the youngest parts of the city, for example, in Obolon, have suffered the least, but in old ones, where the streets were not repaired for 30-40 years, - great destruction.

Like any metropolis, Kiev suffers from traffic jams. The most problematic place for drivers is the crossroads on Poshtova Square. In the morning, the speed of the car does not exceed 4 kilometers per hour. In the evening it is better to pass the interchange at Vidubichi before the South Bridge - here you can stand for a very long time without moving.

In addition, in the morning, from 7:00 to 10:00, traffic jams are formed in a tunnel under the railway tracks on Moskovsky Prospekt, near Bessarabskaya Square, on Prospect General Vatutin in front of the Moscow Bridge, on the arrival and departure from the Paton Bridge, at the intersection of the Friendship of Peoples Boulevard and Ivan Mazepa Street, on the ring road in the Zhulyansky overpass area.
