The central museum square of the city can be called Helvetiaplatz: it houses the Historical Museum and the Art Gallery of Modern Art, as well as the Museum of the Swiss Alps, which tells about the nature and culture of people inhabiting this part of the Alps. Just around the corner, on Bernastraße is the Swiss Rifle Museum with a collection of Swiss rifles and sporting firearms. And on Laupenstrasse, at the headquarters of the Salvation Army, a museum of the history of this charitable organization was opened.
