How to get to Negombo

Colombo International Airport is even closer to Negombo than to the capital of Sri Lanka. Therefore, most hotels offer a peak-up service to their customers, but at very high prices (from 1500 to 2500 LKR). Where it will be cheaper to get to the bus stop of the airport (from the building there is a free shuttle, on the way 5 minutes). And there - take a tuk-tuk to the center of Negombo, which will cost from 400 to 500 LKR.

To get from the main train station of Negombo to the hotel on tuk-tuk you will have to "lay out" about 150 LKR.

Directly from Colombo to the resort there is an express bus (flight / air-conditioned 28/42 LKR, en route from hour to two, departure every 20 minutes). Trains leaving the train station of the capital are much slower than buses. You can get to Kandy by bus to Veyangoda (20 LKR, on the way 2 hours), where you can take a direct train.

Cuisine and restaurants

South coast of Negombo is a popular place for lovers of fish and seafood. In the local bay fishermen catch an incredible number of lobsters, crabs and shrimp. There are many taverns on the beach where all these seafood are cooked on open fire

Entertainment, excursions and attractions Negombo

Negombo is a famous center of Catholicism on the island ( it is even called "small Rome"). It is not surprising that there are so many churches and cathedrals in the city, the largest and most picturesque of which is St. Mary's Cathedral.

In addition, you can make a real trip in time, seeing the ruins of a Dutch fort built in 1672, the Dutch channel , which served in those days as a backup route to the Dutch administration, ancient churches and a cemetery, as well as a virgin nature, and a colorful fish market.

New quay will be built in Negombo by the end of September 2010. It is from there that inquisitive tourists can take boat trips along the lagoon and enjoy beautiful views, unusual flora and fauna and mangroves.
The new marina is on the Castem Hauz Road, not far from the Hamilton Canal, which in turn originates at the source of the Maha-Oya River.
