Pigeon Island was declared a reserve in 1970, and in 2003 it was transferred to the category of National Parks. There is a belief that the island was the center for sending official letters to the pigeon mail in the royal times.
The park consists of a large and small island, and the total area is about 430 hectares. Coral islands forming the island number more than 100 varieties, and in the coastal waters there are about 300 species of coral fish, as well as unique green and olive turtles.
Visitors to the park are allowed to swim in the sea, snorkeling and scuba diving. To date, private boats will take tourists to their destination, however, in the near future, the Department of Wildlife Conservation plans to launch their boats along the route to provide visitors with better and safer services.
