How to get to Dambulla Dambulla
is 150 kilometers from the international airport of Sri Lanka between Kandy, Anuradhapura and Polonnaruwa. The best way to get to the place is by bus. The fare from Kandy to Dambulla costs about 65 rupees. From Colombo to Dambulla can be reached in four hours by a comfortable air-conditioned bus, paying 170 rupees. From Polonnaruwa and Anuradhapura buses run for only Rs. 40. The fare is shown on February 2009.

"Golden Cave Temple", located on the top of the mountain, was built in the first century BC and keeps the world's largest collection of Buddha statues. The entrance to the caves is 500 rupees (for 2010). In total, the Buddhist temple consists of five caves, each of which has its own name.
Dambulla Caves
The first cave is named after the god Vishnu, under the patronage of which the temple was erected. Here you can see seven Buddha statues of the first century BC, the largest of which is 14 meters. Next to the temple there is a small chapel of the god Vishnu, which can also be seen.
The second largest cave . third cave was built relatively recently compared to the rest. In the temple of the 18th century there are 56 Buddha statues, on the ceiling more than a thousand of its images, with each statue unique in its own way. Exits from the cave are presented in the form of arches decorated with dragons
The fourth cave is very small, it was built in the first century BC. In the center of it you can see another dragon, which used to store the jewels of the king's wife.
