Only Lanki Rupees / LKR (not to be confused with Indian) are accepted in stores. In large stores you can pay by cards, but personally I never recommend this. As there are cases of withdrawal of card numbers and their subsequent blocking. Change money at the airport or at the bank. Or just take it off at an ATM, they are in all medium and large cities in the country
