The official residence of the Spanish kings is located in the western part of Madrid in place of an ancient Moorish fortress. The construction of the palace began in 1738 and was completed in 1764, during the reign of Charles III. Surrounding the palace are magnificent gardens - Campo del Moro and Sabatini Gardens.

The interiors of the palace are decorated with canvases of Caravaggio, Goya, Tiepolo, Velasquez and other masters. There is also a collection of ancient weapons and a unique collection of violins of Stradivarius

Today the Royal Palace is used only for official ceremonies of Juan Carlos II and at the rest of the time is open to the public
