As you know, in 2007 the results of the international vote for the new man-made 7 wonders of the world were summed up .They are the Great Wall of China, the Roman Colosseum, the Peruvian Machu Picchu, the ancient city of Petra in Jordan, the Indian Taj Mahal, the Christ Redeemer Statue in Rio de Janeiro and the Kukulkan pyramid in Chichen Itza on the Yucatan peninsula, Mexico .The contest was organized by the non-profit organization New Open World Corporation, and its results aroused much controversy in the international community .So, for example, the representatives of UNESCO consider them invalid, because the opportunity to vote on the Internet or using a mobile phone was not for all the inhabitants of the Earth .

Since this list did not include any construction in Russia, it was decided to hold a national contest to find seven wonders in our country .And it did not matter whether a "miracle" was created by the hands of a person or a unique natural object .The initiators of the project were the newspaper "Izvestia", the TV channel "Russia" and the radio station "Mayak" .According to the results of the first round, 49 miracles were selected - 7 from each federal district .The second round revealed 14 finalists .Within a month and a half there was a popular vote, as a result of which the winners were chosen .On June 12, 2008, the list of 7 wonders of Russia was solemnly announced .
