In the Soviet years Gelendzhik Airport served domestic flights and local air lines, accepted light aircraft and helicopters of all types. By the beginning of the 80s of the last century, up to 34 flights were performed per day, but then the passenger traffic decreased, and the beginning of the new century was marked by a sad record: 1 flight a day. In 2004, the airport was closed for reconstruction, and in 2010 it was re-opened for regular passenger traffic.
How to get there
From the city center the airport is only 10 km away, not far from the M-4 highway. This distance can be easily overcome by bus or taxi. The official airport taxi is Kuban Express. In addition, from many sanatoria of the region shuttles go to the airport. Next to the airport there is paid and free parking
Infrastructure
To date, the airport has a completely modern airport area with a runway of 3,100 meters, which allows taking almost any aircraft. The airport terminal of the complex so far consists of Terminal 1. The airport's capacity is low, it is today 140 passengers per hour. This is very small for the resort city, but due to the fact that due to natural conditions in Gelendzhik often there is non-flying weather, and planes are sent to the nearest airports of Anapa (100 km) and Krasnodar (170 km).
Business class passengers are provided with additional comfort: a separate room with the possibility to undergo registration and pre-flight inspection. By 2014, Terminal 2 will be put into operation, which will have 20 check-in counters and will increase the airport's capacity to 400 passengers per hour.
