Once upon a time Yeniseisk was a rich provincial town, where from all over Siberia people came for furs, they extracted mica, iron, the best icons were written here. Now it is a city, more precisely a small town, of regional importance, 350 km from Krasnoyarsk. But the spirit of antiquity in Yeniseisk is not what it feels, it reigns! For this feeling, you need to go here.

Yeniseysk is an "open-air museum". In a small town - more than one hundred monuments of architecture! Here the stone mansions in the Art Nouveau style coexist with the merchant's wooden manors, all diluted by a large (for one town) number of churches - samples of the Siberian baroque.

The father of Siberian cities - this is what the Yeniseisk historians call it, because it was founded in 1619 as a wooden prison. After three decades, it becomes a district town, in the 17th and 18th centuries - the second largest and most significant in Siberia after Tobolsk. In the beginning of the 19th century, gold deposits were discovered here, Yeniseysk prospered, but not for long - in 1869 almost all of it burned down. Finally, the city fell into disrepair after the construction of the Trans-Siberian Railway. Almost all of its history, Yeniseisk served as a place of exile, including the Decembrists.

It is interesting, but there was always a shortage of women in Yeniseisk. They were discharged on a petition and immediately snapped up. Now, of course, the situation, as well as across Russia, is reversed.

Yeniseysk is remarkable for its preserved building (it includes more than 100 architectural monuments), looking at which one can imagine what the city looked like a century and even two centuries ago. Here you can find stone buildings of the late 19th - early 20th centuries in eclectic and modern styles. On the outskirts of the old town - merchant wooden houses-estates, with balconies-galleries, carvings.
