The village of Lychny Island is located in the north of Sandal Lake, 40 km from Kondopoga. Known is the island thanks to the famous Peter and Paul Church, built in 1620 on the hill rising in the center of the island, where once settled Lichnoostrovsky pogost. Around the churchyard there were several villages that, as far back as the 15th century, belonged to the Novgorod boyars Mark Panfilov and Ivan the Ninth, and were attributed to the Shuisky and Kizhi pogosts. In some documents of 1583 it is mentioned that earlier in the Lichnoostrovsky pogost there existed the predecessor of the Peter and Paul Church.
