Surfing in Kamchatka

Perhaps, everyone who hears the phrase "surfing on Kamchatka", mentally twists his finger at his temple. And it will be ten thousand times wrong. Our country is able to give every corner of the planet a place in terms of fancies, fun and entertainment. And the long heavy board, on which it is so cool to conquer the waves, did not pass by the attention of brave Siberians and residents of the Far East. So meet: bright surfs, big waves and crazy extremals who are not afraid of the cold ....

Of course, the first thing that is worth taking in the future conquerors of the elements - it's cold here. Highly. Even in the hottest season, from the middle of June to the end of August, the water does not warm above +15. Hence the conclusion - for surfing you will need a thin wetsuit, 4/3 or 3/2.

Do not relax - no one has canceled winter surfing on Kamchatka either. When the thermometer in the water stands steadily at 0 ... +2, only desperate can climb into the water. And they, I must say, are not small. Conquer the icy Pacific Ocean in one of the most reserved places of our planet - it's worth a lot, but it's easy to warm your feet from a campfire.

The second moment is waves, they are quite high here, they say, when strong winds reach an impressive 15 m in height. In other words, beginners should be very careful not to neglect the services of instructors and surf schools. By the way about the latter, in the summer season, when the height of skating is at its peak, several places open on the coast along the Pacific Ocean, where you can rent a "board" and an experienced coach. In winter, of course, such "abundance" will not be.

On the shore, black volcanic sand is fantastic for its beauty and purity.

As for the infrastructure, then, let's say at once, it is not worth waiting for the Hawaiian coasts dotted with hotels and restaurants. All surfers live, as a rule, in tents, or come from Petropavlovsk, where they rent apartments. Food is cooked at the stake, instead of films at the cinema, they are admired by sunsets, but social networks replace them with live conversations with the most interesting people from all over the world. Not the worst prospect?

Finishing on a positive note, it is worth saying that surfing in Kamchatka is not just the destiny of two or three fanatics. It's really a famous place, which is becoming more popular. For example, in the autumn of 2014, there was even a stage of the Russian Surfing Championship here.
