Holy Trinity Ipatievsky Monastery - one of the most important sights of Kostroma . The approximate date of the foundation of the monastery can be called 1330 g . Its founder was the Tatar Zakhary Chet who converted to Christianity , escaping from the Golden Horde . Godunovs - one of the noble noble families, the founder of which was Chet, for centuries provided great support to the monastery, donating there books and household items for free . It was thanks to them that by the end of the 16th century Ipat Evsky Monastery took an important place in the spiritual and political life of medieval Russia . At the Holy Trinity Ipatievsky Monastery an icon workshop was opened, and in the huge library rare books and manuscripts were kept, among which were lists of the Ipatiev Chronicle .
Old and New Town in Kostroma divide the Ipatievsky monastery into two parts. Today in its possession there are two magnificent buildings, striking with their beauty: the Holy Trinity Church and the Nativity of the Virgin.
Another monastery of Kostroma - Epiphany-Anastasin Monastery, which has been visited by both tourists and men. The monastery was founded by a disciple and a relative of Sergius of Radonezh, aged Nikita. Originally all the buildings in the monastery were made of wood until the construction of the oldest stone building in Kostroma, the Epiphany Cathedral, began in 1559.
The most famous landmark of the Epiphany-Anastasia Monastery is the icon of the Fedorovskaya Mother of God, the work of the apostle Luke, which survived unscathed, passing through all the robberies and fires. The icon is considered a shrine of the Romanov dynasty, people from all over the country come to look at it.
