Dmitrievsky Cathedral in Vladimir
Vladimir, Cathedral SquareThe time of the construction of the Dmitrievsky cathedral was at the height of the Vladimir-Suzdal principality, when in just a few decades from the backwoods it turned into lands that play a decisive role in the life of the country.
The most famous of them is undoubtedly the Assumption Cathedral. According to the ambitious plan of Andrei Bogolyubsky, it was supposed that the church would become the center of political and cultural life of the entire Vladimir-Suzdal principality and, moreover, the main cathedral of all Rus. The cathedral functions, is open to visitors every day and definitely deserves a detailed inspection both inside and out.
Only a hundred meters from Uspensky is Dmitriyevsky Cathedral. The services in the cathedral are no longer held, but sometimes it is open to visitors - true, with a strange schedule of the temple: even the Vladimirs themselves are not always able to figure it out. However, if you do not get inside, do not get upset - outside the cathedral is still much more beautiful.
A little further away is the Nativity Monastery and the adjacent Nikolo-Kremlin Church, which now houses a library and city planetarium.
In addition to the above listed, it is worth to visit the Theotokos-Uspensky Church, considered the most significant architectural monument of Vladimir of the 17th century, the Michael-Archangel Church, which is very unusual for the Vladimir cathedrals, and the Old Believers' Trinity Church built in honor of the three hundredth anniversary of the Romanov dynasty just a few months before the revolution.
