The Botanical Garden of the Academy of Sciences in Moscow is the largest in Europe, with the richest collection of plants of open and closed ground with over 17 thousand species and varieties. It was founded in 1945. Today its territory totals more than 330 hectares of land.

There are only three botanical gardens in Moscow. The oldest of them was founded in 1706 by Peter I after the establishment of the Aptekarsky order and was used to grow medicinal herbs. The second is the Botanical Garden of the Moscow State University on Vorobyovy Gory. The third, the largest, was discovered in the Ostankino Park in 1945.

The main task of the Botanical Garden is the preservation of biological diversity. The Garden Arboretum is almost 2000 species of trees and bushes from around the world, in the expositions "Rosary", "Garden of Continuous Flowering", "Garden of Coastal Plants" and "Shadow Garden", a chic collection of floral and ornamental plants is collected, in the greenhouse the number of species and forms tropical and subtropical plants has exceeded 6 000.

The garden is really huge. At the time of its opening, the area was 360 hectares - about twice the entire area of the Principality of Monaco.

It is, in fact, more like a park than a botanical garden . Nearly there are almost no name plates near the plants, and visitors, in spite of located on the territory of the warning, still sit on the grass, sunbathe and ride on bicycles or rollers . So the botanical garden at first glance rather resembles a wonderful place for outdoor recreation - except in a few more exotic conditions . If you are more inte esuyut signed and systematized rare plants would be wiser to go after them in the Pharmaceutical Garden on Prospekt Mira .

Main Botanical Garden. NV Tsitsina RAS in Moscow - the largest in Europe, it can be walked on foot or ride a bicycle, studying the numerous tablets with the names of plants.

Cognitive excursions are conducted around the garden, but you can wander here and yourself - by studying name tags plants, wandering into the dense forest, feeding the squirrels, resting near small ponds and breathing atypical for the outskirts of Moscow, oxygenated air. The only thing you should not forget when visiting the garden is that it is not an ordinary city park, and careful attitude to the unique flora is especially important here

Interesting Facts

There is one rather important point that many visitors miss. You can get to the garden from the VDNKh and from the metro Vladykino, but if you do not care about finding a detailed map before visiting, you may need quite a lot of time to find the entrance. It is surprisingly well hidden and, as a rule, none of the passers-by knows exactly where it is located.

Many people believe that, after reaching the Botanical Garden metro station, you can quickly get to the botanical garden itself. But, strangely enough, it is not so.

With the exit about the same trouble. There are almost no signs inside, and the territory of the botanical garden is so large that you can easily get lost there. It is better to get acquainted with the map of the garden in advance, so that you can certainly get out on time.

However, overcoming all these difficulties is worth it, because inside the botanical garden is simply charming. Walking along it you will be able to visit both a neat forest park, a wild forest, and a cozy garden with fruit trees. In addition, completely hand-held squirrels live in the botanical garden, and if you have the patience, you may even be able to feed the forest birds from the hands.

Were with her friend on July 13, 1944 in the botanical garden. now it's a place for bikers, rollers. It's impossible to walk and rest calmly: you have to jerk all the time, bounce off to the side afraid of being knocked down.

Association of the Botanical Garden and VDNH. April 27, 2014

For decades, the Botanical garden was slowly dying (the trees were drying and rotting, the buildings were collapsing) from federal underfinancing. Finally, he will be killed by a merger with VDNH. The botanical garden will be turned into a PARK, combed with it, rid of all "superfluous", will make free round-the-clock uncontrolled access, ponastavit lanterns, will start mowing lawns and rare species will die, the last living creatures will die out, birds will fly away.
After all, it is known even the youngster, that the botanical gardens work regime and visiting rules are different from the park!

It is clear that the Main Botanical Garden named after Nikolai Vasilievich Tsitsin, belonging to the biological department of the Russian Academy of Sciences, is good in its own way at any time of the year, but it should be borne in mind that in winter it is closed. He especially likes me in late spring, when, filled with young greenery of trees and grasses, he smells like a variety of flowering plants.
I may be objected that there is a site of continuous flowering, where this phenomenon continues throughout the summer. But, first, the indicated territory ... Read the entire review
