Kalyazin is a district center of the Tver Region, located at the confluence of the Zhabnya River in the Volga. The main attraction of the city is a flooded belfry, standing alone in the middle of the river. At one time, because of the hydroelectric power station built here, the entire old city of Kalyazin was flooded. Now in its place is a wide, deep water plant, dividing modern Kalyazin into two parts - the eastern and the western. Cross the harbor only by a single bridge, located just above the city.
The old center of Kalyazin is a few meters below the river level, under the water, a new one - in the western part, along the highway leading to Kashin.

How to get here
The successful location of Kalyazin allows you to visit the nearby town of Kashin (25 km, about 5 buses a day, en route 40 minutes), Uglich (by train, 47 km) or Sergiev Posad (1 bus a day, 2, 5 hours en route, 120 km).
Through the city is the railway line Moscow - Sonkovo - St. Petersburg. From Moscow you can get here by train from Belorussky railway station to Rybinsk (4 hours on the way, arrives late at night); or from Savyolovsky station by train to the station "Savelovo" and then by suburban train (2 times a day) - the total travel time will take 4-5 hours. In summer 1-2 times a day goes "Comet" from Savelovo.
From St. Petersburg - from the Moscow station trailer car to Uglich (12 hours on the road, it's night), or to Tver (about 10 trains a day, 5-7 hours on the road). From Tver, twice a day, a bus runs to Kalyazin (4 hours en route).
