Vladimir's art is captured not only in the magnificent architecture of the Vladimir cathedrals and churches, but also in a completely original icon painting.

The heyday of the icon painting in Vladimir is connected with the personality of Prince Andrey Bogolyubsky . It was he who in 1155 moved to Vyshhorod Vladimir, took with him the ion of the Mother of God, which became a model for many generations of Vladimir icon painters . Andrey Bogolyubsky called for the mural of the Vladimir temples of the best masters . The most famous works of that time - Iko and Our Lady of Bogolyubovo, ordered Andrew to his castle temple in Bogolyubov (now the icon is in the Duchess monastery in Vladimir); "The phenomenon of the Archangel Gabriel" and "The Savior of the Golden Vlasy" (which can be seen in the Assumption Cathedral in Moscow) .

At present, the traditions of the ancient masters are preserved in the guild of Vladimir icon painters.
