Petrozavodsk, the capital of Karelia, is located on the coast of Petrozavodsk Bay of Onega Lake and stretches for 22 km . In 1703, Emperor Peter I ordered the founding of an iron-making and cannon-foundry plant at the mouth of the Lososinka River, and the Petrovskaya Sloboda . Petrovsky factory produced guns, hand-held firearms and cold steel . At that time it was the largest weapons enterprise in the country . The plant played a decisive role in the creation of the Baltic Fleet, and thus contributed to the end of the Northern War and strengthened the boundaries of the state . In 1773-1774 gg . the prospective development plan of the city was made . The first stone buildings appeared and in 1777 the settlement became the city of Petrozavodsk, which in 1781 received its coat of arms .
To 1930, the city was built up chaotically, adapting to the terrain. The modern city has a network of streets, mostly parallel and perpendicular to the shore of Onega Lake. Along the coast stretches the Onego embankment clad in granite, which is a kind of open-air museum, whose exposition is represented by monuments - gifts of seven sister cities of Petrozavodsk
On the opposite bank of the Petrozavodsk bay in the Solomennoye neighborhood (former suburbs) on the rock since 1887. Solomensky churchyard with churches was located: Sretenskaya and Petropavlovskaya. At present, only the Sretenskaya church is preserved, which was restored in 2003.
