Murom is located on seven hills on the left bank of the Oka River. The name of the city came from the name of the Finno-Ugric tribe Murom, who lived in these parts before the arrival of the Slavs.

The exact date of the founding of the city is unknown, but it is mentioned in the Tale of Bygone Years under the year 862. According to the chronicles, the land on which Moore was built was always rich in various gifts of nature, making the city very attractive for life. Large settlements began to appear here since the Stone Age.

However, not everything was so cloudless in the life of the Murom. In the 10th century, having joined the Kievan Rus, Murom was an outpost on the eastern border of the country. That is, the city was forced to meet all the enemies who came from the east. No wonder it was here, in the Murom village of Karacharovo, the hero of the epic hero Ilya Muromets was born.

In the 15th century the city was visited by Tsar Ivan the Terrible, who was on his way to Kazan with his army. Due to the success of his campaign in Murom, the first stone churches appeared, some survived to this day.

In the 15th century, the city was visited briefly by Tsar Ivan the Terrible, who was on his way to Kazan with his army. Due to the success of his campaign in Murom, the first stone churches appeared, some of which have survived to this day.

A few centuries later Paul I, passing through Murom, noticed that he was pleased with them. Most of all the emperor admired the architecture of the city and its location. However, to this day he came in a noticeably changed form. The architectural appearance of its historical part was formed at the beginning of the XIX century, after the city experienced two serious grimaces and was practically rebuilt according to the plan of Ivan Lem.

In 1863 Murom was built a water pipe, which became the first in the Vladimir province. Approximately at the same time, the iron foundry and mechanical factories began to work here, as well as cotton and flax-spinning factories. Shortly before the revolution, railway workshops appeared in the city.

The ensuing Soviet era did not bring anything good to Murom. Almost all the temples were devastated, and some were even demolished.
