A bit of history

The Annunciation Cathedral (1560-1584)
The Annunciation Cathedral in Solvychegodsk is one of the oldest stone cathedrals of the North .Built in the Stroganovian five-domed church majestically rises above the low urban development .The present chapters of the cathedral were built in the 18th century .At different times the southern gallery was reconstructed, at the beginning of the XIX century a bell tower was added, a marvelous panorama from which one can admire today .It is worth noting that the Stroganoffs at the temple were not stingy .Its interior was magnificent: it was decorated with priceless utensils, luxurious salaries of icons, sewn covers and covers for vessels with communion .
Unfortunately, all this magnificence has not reached our days .However, the surviving frescoes of 1600 g .and the iconostasis, which had its present appearance in the XVII century, with the icons of the "Stroganov school" give an idea of the former grandeur of the church .A rich collection of icons after the times of the power of the Stroganoffs was sold or forged documents were allegedly written off for the dilapidated .Today, the icon "Our Lady of Don" is being kept here by the works of the icon painter Istoma Savin and the icon "Zosima and Savvatiy Solovetsky" - the contribution of the Stroganoff brothers .From the north-west side of the cathedral there is a family burial vault of Stroganovs, where 28 tombstones are collected from the burials of the 16th-17th centuries .Near the Annunciation Cathedral is the Pearl Lake, in which, according to legend, the Stroganoffs grew pearls for decorating icons .
Vvedensky Monastery
Vvedensky monastery with a high cathedral in the style of the Moscow Baroque stands away from the bank of the Vychegda. This monastery was founded by the Stroganov brothers in 1565. Now it is abolished, only the Church of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary in the Temple remained (1689-1693). In its interior, the most striking are the seven-carved carved iconostasis of enormous dimensions and the icon of the same "Stroganov school." Between the Vvedenskoy Church and the Salt Lake is a salt fountain source. And on the shore of the lake there is a salty varnica.
Spasoobydennaya church (1697)
There is also another Baroque church in Solvychegodsk. The stone building, built at the end of the 17th century, was rebuilt in the late 19th century in a pseudo-Russian style. The vast two-story chapel almost completely closed the facade of the temple, the tent bell tower replaced the tiered bell tower. Today the building is dilapidated and is in a deplorable state, and its only glavka has not been preserved.
House-monument of political exile
At the end of the XIX-XX century. Solovychegorsk was sent to the settlement by the Narodnaya Volya, the leaders of the insurrections, and Joseph Stalin served two times here as well. In the house of Maria Prokopievna Kuzakova, where Stalin rented a room, the conditions of those years were completely preserved.
The house of the merchants Pyankov (1810)
The house of the Pyankovs, a palace in the style of classicism, is a building for the Arkhangelsk region unique and rare even for the whole North. The house was built in the first half of the XIX century by order of wealthy merchants, at the end of the XIX century there were places in it, and in the times of the USSR - a sanatorium. Today the house is empty.
Sanatorium
In 1923 in Solvychegodsk based on curative mineral springs was founded balneological mud resort. For therapeutic purposes, chloride-sulphate-sodium and hydrogen sulfide mineral waters, mud mud, and also bromine waters are used here. The resort is good for healing people with diseases of the organs of movement, nervous system and gynecological problems.
Kozma Prutkov
According to the fictional biography of Kozma Prutkov (a collective literary pseudonym of the poets of the 1950s and 1960s), a famous scoffer was born on April 11, 1803 in the village of Tenteleev near Solvychegodsk. Before the entrance to the Annunciation Cathedral, a stone was recently installed in his honor. And since 1998 in Solvychegodsk festivals Kozma Prutkov - festivals of satire and humor are held.
